I have included two of my favourite topics as bonus videos for you. The first is using my ADE model to help streamline your daily activities. The other is on Healthy Boundaries, which can play a critical role in managing overwhelm and burnout.
I was diagnosed autistic and ADHD in my mid-forties. Before that point, I had experienced multiple burnouts, including a catastrophic burnout that ended my corporate career at thirty-six. I barely functioned for a year. I lost the ability to function on a daily basis, and my emotions and nervous system were completely dysregulated.
Whilst I never returned to corporate life, my entrepreneurial life brought with it many smaller burnouts, and an almost constant state of overwhelm and anxiety.
My focus, and the focus of so many other neurodivergent women I have spoken with, has been on recovering from the burnouts when they happen.
But that is NOT the way!
The way to manage the disruptive cycle of burnout is to take steps to prevent it in the first place.
Developing a deep self awareness in order to notice your early warning signs of overwhelm gives you the opportunity to take action and avoid a full burnout.
Having a clear idea of what you can do when you notice the early signs of overwhelm puts you in control.
Creating a clear plan and support structure for yourself will enable you to step back when and where you need to. You'll have tools and techniques you can optimise, and you'll feel confident reaching out for resources and support you may need from others.
Having an easy and clear way to constantly monitor your well-being will enable you to significantly reduce the risk of burnout in the future.
Prevention is always better than cure, in my opinion!
This statement says it all! There really are no prizes for living life in hard mode.
Accepting that our brains work differently from neurotypicals and learning to embrace those unique differences is our key to creating balance whilst creating a version of success that feels good for us.
Life is challenging for everyone, but when you add in the additional efforts that those of us with neurodivergent brains have to make to navigate society and life, then it's no wonder we experience overwhelming anxiety and burnout.
Being kind to yourself and learning to work with your energy, focus, and brain will ensure you can create more balance whilst still thriving.
I hope you love this mini-series as much as I enjoyed creating it. As someone who's experienced life-changing burnout, I will do all that I can to never repeat the experience.
